The Trout, also known as Mark Harris, was a metahuman (water-breathing, night-vision, enhanced smell, enhanced strength, expert swimmer) and a metahero active during World War II and afterward. He was the first aquatic-themed metahero of the world. He wore a costume of silver scales.
The Trout was a metahuman member of the Italian Army at the outbreak of World War II, and he sank several English boats. He switched sides in 1942 for an unexplained reason, becoming a spy for the U.S. government. He also briefly became a member of the All-Adventurers Squadron. The only case he participated in was the "Pin-Up Girl Crisis" in 1944, in which he was assigned to guard Betty Grable. He operated solo during the rest of the war.
Originally having an Italian name, he Americanized it to Mark Harris. The Trout was the inspiration for the Man from Atlantis TV series of 1977 to 1978, which used the name Mark Harris for the title character.
Sometime after the war, Harris had a son who lived in Florida and was stricken with cancer by 1999.
In February, 1999, the Trout was among the metaheroes summoned by Meta 7 to form a temporary team for a mission. Rhyme Guardian led the team to Antarctica to stop an invasion of the extraterrestrial Basilisks and retrieve a starship there. The Trout was killed by a Basilisk when he was shot in the forehead with a laser-beam.
