"But then again," Naecken said, suddenly twirling an imaginary handlebar mustache, "I am a bit hungry myself!"
"Oh, my!" Lance Lorenzo shouted once he got over the shock. "The demon made a funny!"
"This is serious, Naecken!" Danny Hearn said rather flatly.
Naecken smiled an evil little grin and began conferring with the villagers. It was not long before they were taken to their two friends, and they were released.
"Where do we go from here?" Lance asked aloud.
Everyone just looked at each another, as nobody was sure what their next move should be.
That was when the rear end of the cave, where the village stood, suddenly started to collapse. A roar of great magnitude was heard, and something dark approached the chamber. The sounds of metallic claws could be heard getting closer again.
Naecken said, "We need to get out of here... and the country. So we can regroup and find my good friend Eurostar. Where is he?"
"The beast!" someone shouted.
"For the last time, Naecken," Danny said, "he's dead!"
"No," Naecken said, looking at Danny right in the eye.
"Yeah he is, man," Mick Harrison added. "You gotta accept that."
"Yeah," Sam Dawson said. "Uh, who are we talking about, again?"
"He's not dead," Naecken said.
"Look, Naecken," Sonja Ljzavet said, approaching him, "some of us didn't know him too well, but we all felt his death."
"Uh, guys?" Lance asked. "Why don't we discuss this after we escape this place?"
"He's not--"
Suddenly, the rumbling in the background increased considerably. The place was literally falling apart.
"Something's approaching," Marv Velo said, looking at the bigger tunnel.
"Something big," Tobias said. "Should I go look?"
"Too dangerous," Velo replied.
"Shouldn't we be runnin' aroun' an' screamin'?" Pete asked, scratching his head.
"Well, the local people seem pretty calm," Mick said, pointing at the large group of underworld people standing around Naecken's statue. "They gotta have a good reason for that."
"Yessir, da bestest reeson!" one of the underworlders said.
"Please tell us the reason you are so calm before we pee in our pants," Lance said.
"You know what the thing approaching is?" Marv Velo asked Razor.
"Yep," Razor answered.
"And you feel it's safe to stay here. So, it's nothing to worry about?" Velo asked.
"Ya kiddin'? Cant ya lissen ta da damn ting?" Razor said. "Itsa lot to worry about!"
"Then why are you so calm?" Mick asked.
"Cause," Razor said, turning to Naecken, "he's gunna kick it's ass! Only da gob o' gobs can do it!"
The team was left with their eyes wide open.
"Gulp!" Lance said.
"Don' worry," one of the underworld people whispered in Lance's ear, "is okay to pee in yer pants down 'ere."
Shadows broke through the cave walls, covering the area in darkness. A rain of dirt showered over the heroes and underworlders alike.
"It is eir," Razor said, standing his ground. "The time of our diverence is eir."
Lance turned intangitable as the others prepared for whatever kind of beast was ahead.
Danny whispered to himself, "Claws, thick skin, something quick!" He clenched his hands as his appearance changed. His hide grew stronger.
Naecken planted his feet on the ground. He looked around. Everyone was now counting on him.
The far cave wall came down, and from the shadows a pure white being appeared. Looking around, the creature smiled. His appearance was almost identical to Naecken, except for his oily white skin and light blue eyes.
He said with a booming voice, "I AM MERCY AND VENGEANCE."
The being pulled a sword from his chest. It also glowed.
Naecken looked at his teammates but said nothing.
