The naval base on Halé Island, 4:00 a.m.:
Halé Island slept. Only a few guards patroled the outskirts of the base as part of the regular routine. Dark eyes watched a guard light up a cigarette and laugh at something the other guard said. Slowly, the dark figure moved toward its prey. Their voices were the only sound that could be heard, except for the never-ending grind of a few grasshoppers. As the two guards walked toward a smaller shed, the dark figure sneaked behind them and into the camp.
Naecken soared toward his goal, determination fixed in his eyes. He could feel the thoughts of the others in the back of his mind urging him on, and at the same time something inside him laughed.
The Quadinc laboratory was on fire. A few automatic systems kicked in, and soon the fire was put out.
A tall figure, with a thin oval head, pale skin and no hair, full of thin metallic threads woven into the skin, emerged into the lab. "So... you did it. You finally managed to escape. Not for long, though. I will find you. And then you will be brought to justice."
The last thoughts of General Mitcham were on the young girl he met last night at the neighboring island's Hina Inn. He sat on the porch of the officer's cabin, smoking a cigar and smiling to himself. The wind, fresh yet warm and balmy, carried the fragrance of exotic flowers and salt water.
Behind him, the dark man stood and watched for a few seconds before snapping his neck. A brief moment later, a man with a general's uniform strolled into camp with a cheerful smile on his face.
Naecken saw the first explosion light up the now-dark blue sky. A silver line promised a new day. He increased his speed and soon had the island in view. There were fires everywhere. Sounds of automatic rifles echoed across the sea. Screams from terrified soldiers seized his sense of priority, and he descended into the main camp, only to be met with running soldiers and black fire tentacles everywhere. A few soldiers were firing on their friends, so Naecken had to rush to disarm them with a few swipes of his ethereal wings.
A dark laughter filled the ether, and Naecken could see something huge move in the jungle. A group of possessed soldiers attacked him with black flame and weapons. The distraction was enough for the dark entity to make its escape.
"I have enough souls now to power me for a longer trip. We will continue this fight at a later time, little angel," the voice said with a cold, icy laugh, and the dark force rose to the sky.
Naecken, still trying his newfound powers, knew he must first save the innocent soldiers from damnation as mindless minions of that force. Deep within his mind, a female voice whispered, "Use the rapture of the One. It will cleanse this evil out of their mortal shells."
He paused while a few soldiers peppered him with bullets and black flame. A fire inside his stomach grew and grew until it filled his being. A sudden light, bright as day, filled the sky.
Moments later, Naecken and the remaining soldiers gathered the dead bodies. He walked to the beach between a few burning buildings and screamed at the top of his lungs, "I will find you, you bastard... and when I do, it will be for the last time!"
At 5:04 a.m., a small fishing boat got its nets tangled by four bodies in the water. According to the sailors, they took them aboard and got the shock of their lives. Demons. They had found demons floating in the water. The demons had apparently woken up and disappeared over the horizon a few minutes later, one white, one green, one black, one red.
