In 1996, the metagene -- which exists in all humans but only grants superpowers to those whose metagene is activated -- is discovered. As superpowered individuals, called metahumans or metas, begin to slowly appear around the world, they are greeted with fear and persecution. Some metas, of course, use their powers for evil and personal gain, but most are just ordinary people with powers. And some are heroes.
This is the story of five extraordinary people -- the Eurostar, Tobias Christopher, Danny Hearn, M'xy, and Naecken -- who join together while on the run from the authorities, who seek to either capture them to use and study their powers, or otherwise kill them. They will all become heroes, in time, but for now they are called "revolutionaries" by their enemies, although they are more akin to modern-day Knights of the Round Table.
This is also the story of Special Agent Turner and Dr. Charles Walker, two men in the U.S. government with the authority to arrest and detain all metahumans. But while both begin with noble goals, can they withstand the corrupting influence of power?
This story also introduces several prominent characters who, although they are not metahumans, play important roles in the stories: Dr. Henry Quantos, Ms. X, Arnold Bobowsky, Shirley Francis, Nemo, and the old man called Myrddin.
Last but not least, some of the heroes' worst enemies are introduced: The MCCA, TriVext Corporation, Dr. Zachary Knell, K'tl, Eduardo Frederico, and General Gerald Forrest.
This story was written between September 19, 2001, and November 12, 2001, under the heading "Hero Revolution #0: A New Beginning." Read the summary of "A New Beginning" here (spoiler alert).
