In the Classroom
Latin Students Make Derivative Turkeys
Students in Ms. Bernard-Mason's Latin III Honors re-lived their childhoods with hand turkeys. The body represents a Latin word currently being studied and each feather is an English derivative of that word. The turkey was adorned in a way to represent the meaning of the Latin word and the English derivatives were used in sentences.
Monopoly Accounting
Students in Ms. Mendez's Accounting 1 classes applied the general journal, general ledger, and trial balance concepts they have learned over the past two months while playing the game Monopoly. Students do not use the cash provided, but must record their transactions in their accounting documents. Upon the conclusion of the two day game, students must then complete a 6 column worksheet and determine who had the greatest Net Income in their group to declare a winner.
English 11 Revision Project
Ms. D'Elia's English 11 students worked on their Revision presentations. Students will be sharing ideas about revision to motivate peers to revise their writing.
Conversations in French
On November 19th, members of the French National Honor Society participated in a Zoom call during lunch with Mr. Julio Tsasse, an ex-professional soccer player & coach and co-founder of Kids in Cleats. He spoke about growing up in Cameroon, what he missed about living in Africa, and how he is giving back to his community. His organization, Kids in Cleats, is building a soccer academy in Cameroon to raise children out of poverty. FNHS students were able to ask questions about his life and experiences. Speaking French made this connection possible.
