Around the Building

Educator DNA

During the enrichment morning on October 8th, RHS staff participated in an Educator’s DNA activity developed by faculty member Sean Kase. Staff shared and discussed influential people in their lives, specifically those who inspired them on their path to becoming educators. The powerful activity allowed staff to connect not only with each other, but also with students.  Students can view the faculty charts (pictured on left) and discover who some of the role models were in their teacher's lives.

In the Classroom

Biology students Jack and Lucy check for the presence of organic compounds in food. Mrs. Joseph checks their results.

Students enrolled in Freshmen Focus participated in the Book Face Challenge, just one of the many activities planned by media specialist Corrina Moss-Keller to help the newest members of RHS become familiar with the Learning Commons and all it has to offer!

Forensic Science students hone their investigative skills as classes conduct an outdoor search for crime scene evidence.

AP Art History classes recently held a Toga Review Day to help students prepare for an upcoming unit test. To cap off the day, students participated in a Panathenaic procession. In Ancient Greece, the procession was the main event at festivals celebrating Athena.

Club Happenings

Community Outreach recently held a bake sale at RHS to raise money for Smile Train, the world's largest cleft-focused organization. RHSCO allows for any student to be the project manager of their own community service initiatives. Since there are no mandatory fundraisers or volunteer hours, students participate at their own pace.

RHS TEEEM hosted a clothing drive this past Saturday to raise money for Nyaka Global, an organization that supports children in Uganda by providing them with an education, shelter, and food. TEEEM matches schools in the United States with an international community, providing students a chance to gain management and entrepreneurial skills, as well as expanding world perspectives.

Speech and Debate members Jonah Wunder and Marcus Phillips successfully qualified for Silver TOC (Tournament of Champions), after a very strong performance in the Bronx Varsity Public Forum tournament this past week, placing them in the top 30 debate teams in the entire country. They are the very first Varsity Public Forum team in RIdgewood High School History to qualify for TOC!

National History Day founding members shared their achievement with board members at the October 18th BOE meeting. The team submitted a 10-minute documentary to the NHD competition that advanced all the way to the national level, eventually placing in the top 10 for its category. Pictured from left to right is club advisor Corrina Moss-Keller, and seniors Isabel Lee, Paul Nasr, Alice Zhang and Bella Harelick.
