College Visit Season is Back at RHS!

College representatives will be visiting again in-person. Please reference Naviance and/or the bulletin board outside of the Guidance office to see upcoming scheduled visits.  Sign up in Naviance to attend.

As a reminder, permission slips to attend college visits can be found inside the Guidance Office. We have plenty of exciting visits lined up!

Clementina Leaves RHS

Clementina Pena, one of our custodians, has been at RHS for 17 years, always keeping the 2nd and 3rd floors ship-shape and sharing her beautiful smile with students and staff. She will be moving to Orchard School to work the second shift. We'll miss her so much!  During Enrichment morning, the staff honored her with a standing ovation.

Left:  The Math Department celebrated Clementina and said good-bye during a lunchtime party.

In the Classroom

Arrow Yearbook Staff Celebrates Success

On Tuesday, September 14th, the yearbook classes embarked on a field trip into town to promote the book and encourage support from local businesses.  On this one day alone, they successfully collected funds for 8 ads from Albert Ferro, Attorney at Law, Arthur Groom & Co., Beers Flower Shop, Best Nail Salon, Blu Sushi, P. Smith Design, Turmeric Indian Bistro, and Woof Gang Bakery. In addition, they received promising feedback from many other businesses.

In the next few weeks, the staff will follow up with each business to further develop their professional communication skills. What a great start to the 2022 Arrow productions!

Book Groups Read Memoirs

Students in English classes have been forming book groups to read and discuss one of three memoirs for a new initiative called Tell Me Your Story.  Students will examine how each author explores and finds their identity. In their discussions, students will celebrate differences and find common ground in our human experiences.

Club Happenings

French Club says Bonjour!

Bonjour RHS! The French Club met last Wednesday to promote French culture and gave out prizes to our raffle winners. They were excited to meet everyone who attended, especially the freshman!

Future projects and videos were discussed, including one that will involve RHS and its facilities. They met with students from France who are interested in working with the RHS French Club. The leaders envision this cooperation and partnership to be of great importance. It will immerse students on both sides of the Atlantic in each other's culture.

Overall, it was a very successful event, and they look forward to future meetings and goals (video projects, games, and the logo design for our 2021-2022 t-shirt etc.).

Don't miss out our first bake sale, September 30th, after school by the Principal's office.

If you would like to join, feel contact Madame Palumbo in Room 332 or  send an email to hpalumbo@ridgewood.k12.nj.us.

Applied Engineering I.C.E Team Mentor Session

The Applied Engineering I.C.E. team is inventing a cooling blanket for trauma patients to reduce blood loss. They are heading for NJATEAM Tank Final along with six other RHS teams in October.

NJSTEAM Tank, sponsored by U.S. Army, arranged a mentoring session with Capt. Travis Polk, a Navy-trained trauma surgeon. The I.C.E. team led by Senior Hailey Haglid, with Junior Kevin Park, Sophomores Zakariya Benmoussa, and Nicholas Peruyero, gained much insight into their project.

A Blast from the Past

In February 2005, Mr. DaSilva, Mr. Cronk and Mr. McCullough took students to Central Park to see the installation called "The Gates" by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The trip was brought to mind now because a new posthumous artwork,  L'Arc de Triomphe Wrapped, by the famed pair was revealed in Paris last week. Mr. DaSilva shared this memory and said, "This is big news in the art world."
