College Entrance Requirements
Two Year Colleges
The UW-System has thirteen two-year branch campuses located throughout the state. These colleges have more open admission requirements, lower tuition, and guaranteed transfer options. Two-year colleges offer smaller classes, more personalized attention, and are less competitive. Two-year branch campuses (i.e. UW-EC Barron County) typically require the same high school preparatory coursework as the four-year schools, however, admission is more flexible.
Entrance requirements include:
Have graduated from a recognized high school, have a GED, or present other evidence of ability to begin university work.
Have a minimum of 17 college preparatory credits. Thirteen of the 17 credits must be distributed as follows:
English 4 credits
Social Studies 3 credits
Natural Science 3 credits
Mathematics 3 credits (must include at least one credit of algebra and the equivalent of one credit of geometry)
The remaining four credits will be from the above areas, world languages, fine arts, computer science or other academic areas.
Submit an ACT or SAT score. Your ACT or SAT score must be received before you are permitted to register for classes. (Many colleges are test-optional through 2022 due to Covid-19.)
