Explore creative design processes that combine digital and traditional approaches. Design Fundamentals is a hands-on, project-based course that develops and improves basic 2D and 3D design skills and applies them in real world design projects in a variety of Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communications and Manufacturing career pathways. Topics that will be covered include Form vs Function / Materials & Processes, Ergonomics, Aesthetics, Target Markets, Design Elements and Principles, PLAY/Construction/Deconstruction, Customer Empathy, Prototyping, etc. using hands-on materials, digital drawing tablets, 3-D printers, and a variety of digital applications. Projects include, but are not limited to, basic introductions to game design, fashion design, product design, jewelry design etc. This course is recommended for students interested in design careers.
