Open to grades 10, 11, and 12
Prerequisite: See physical requirements below. Swimming portion of this course will be held off campus.

Class Fees: All class fees and course materials for this class will be paid for by the district.
Exception: Due to the nature of the Red Cross blended learning format for WSI, any student who is unsuccessful in completing this certification will be responsible for the $35 fee and will also be required to return their books and class materials in good condition at the end of the semester. Failure to return materials will result in the student paying replacement costs ($40).
Physical requirements:
Students must turn 16 years old at completion of the course
Students must be able to float on their back for 1 minute, tread water for 2 minutes without the use of their hands, and be proficient in front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary breaststroke, and sidestroke
Students must swim 300 yards continuously
Students must retrieve a 10-pound brick and return to the starting point in less than 1 minute and 40 seconds
Students will acquire American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid/CPR/AED and Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Advanced swimming skills and knowledge of strokes are necessary.
