General School Information

Graduation Requirements

A total of 28 credits are needed for graduation, including the 16 required plus 12 elective credits.  Per state law, successful completion of the civics exam is also required.

Student Evaluation

Letter grades are used to evaluate student work. Quarterly grades will be placed on report cards for parent and student informational purposes. Quarter grades will also be placed on the permanent record and are used for class ranking purposes.

Grade Levels

Chippewa Falls High School serves grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Credits for graduation are earned in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12.

School Year

The school year consists of 4 quarters beginning in September, November, January, and April.

Scheduling

Scheduling for all quarters is done in the preceding year.  Students must take 4 classes per quarter.

Course Load

All students are required to take 4 class periods each quarter.

Courses

All courses are given the credit value listed in the descriptions. One-half credit is granted after satisfactory completion of one quarter of work, unless otherwise noted. Up to 8 credits per year may be earned.  Course offerings vary in difficulty.  Courses with three *** are the most rigorous.

Credit

Credit is awarded upon the successful completion of a course. Grade point average, class rank and credits earned are calculated at the end of each quarter.

Schedule Changes

Chippewa Falls Senior High School has based our master course schedule on a combination of student requests, district needs, and efficient allocation of district resources. It is important to understand that we are making commitments based on the course selections made by the student. Therefore, great care, thought and consideration should be given to course choices. Keeping this in mind, the school expects students and parents to honor their commitments.

Students will have the opportunity to review their course selections in the spring of the year. If a student would like to request a change in selection, a request will need to be made in writing no later than April 15. Forms will be available in Student Services and on the Student Services website.

Course Add/Drop Dates

Students will have 4 school days after the start of each quarter in order to add/change a class. An additional 6 days will be given for students who would like to drop a class for a flex/study hall. After 10 school days, students who elect to drop a class will have a W/F recorded on their transcript for the course.

Teacher Changes

Due to scheduling and staffing requirements involved in developing student schedules, requests to change teachers will not be honored unless extreme extenuating circumstances are present. Administrative approval is required. It should be noted that two quarter long classes are treated as single quarters thus, classroom teachers may change at the quarter.

Removal from a class for any reason will be indicated with a WD/F on the student’s transcript and an F will be calculated into their grade point average.

Middle School Students Taking Courses at the High School

Courses taken at the high school by middle school students will be listed on the student's high school transcript with the grade earned. Credit is not awarded and any grades earned do not impact the student's high school gpa. This record allows higher level coursework to be taken earlier. (Example: If English 9 is taken in eighth grade, it is recorded on the transcript and English 10 would be assigned for the ninth grade year.)

AP Course Audit

Students have the option of auditing an AP class. Students will have up until the mid-quarter date to change to audit status. Auditing allows the student to learn all of the concepts without the fear of a lesser grade because of the difficulty of the course. No credit is earned when auditing a course. However, the student must earn a passing grade. If the student does not pass the course, an F will be listed on their transcript.
