English Graduation Requirements - 4 Credits

Grade 9

Freshman English - 1 credit

Grade 10

Sophomore English - 1 credit

*AP Seminar can be taken in place of English 10 to fulfil this graduation requirement.

Grade 11

Communications - .5 credit
Any Writing Course - .5 credit
Any Literature Course - .5 credit

*Effective 21-22 school year: AP Seminar will count towards the communications requirement. Students taking AP Seminar will not need to take communications separately.

*The writing and literature credits can be taken in either grade 11 or 12. Only .5 credit is required for each course.

Grade 12

Any English Elective - .5 credit
Any Writing Course - .5 credit
Any Literature Course - .5 credit

Freshman English

English 9 is required for all freshman students.

Sophomore English

English 10 is required for all sophomore students. Students can choose to take AP Seminar in place of English 10, which also fulfils the sophomore English graduation requirement.

Communications

Communications is required for all junior students.
As of the 2021-2022 school year, AP Seminar fulfils the Communications graduation requirement. Students who took AP Seminar can choose to take Communications for elective credit following their sophomore year.

Literature Courses

A literature course is required for graduation. Students may choose to take any of the courses below to fulfil this graduation requirement. Typically these courses are only open to grades 11 and 12. In some cases, these courses may be open to sophomore students with teacher approval.

Writing Courses

A writing course is required for graduation. Students may choose to take any of the courses below to fulfil this graduation requirement. Typically these courses are only open to grades 11 and 12. In some cases, these courses may be open to sophomore students with teacher approval.

English Electives

A half credit of any English Elective is required for graduation. Students may choose to take an additional writing or literature course, or any of the electives below, to fulfil this graduation requirement.
