Accounting 1 is an introductory accounting course. In this class, students will learn accounting practices in the accounting cycle for a service business that is organized as a proprietorship. Topics include: the accounting equation; debits and credits; accounts and account balances; journalizing transactions; posting transactions; cash management; developing an end-of-month worksheet; creating income statements and balance sheets; and performing end-of-period work.


Knowledge of basic accounting principles is necessary for anyone who is planning to pursue a career in entrepreneurship, management, accounting, business, marketing, law, or healthcare administration.


Note: Successful completion of Accounting 1 is a prerequisite for Accounting 2. Students who meet college-specified criteria in Accounting 1, 2, and 3 may earn transcripted credit from Chippewa Valley Technical College.
