The first semester of this course studies the beginnings of human culture investigating the Paleolithic Age, Neolithic Age, and the rise of civilizations. We then journey through the early River Valley Civilizations of Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, the Indus Valley, and Ancient China. African Civilizations are the next area of focus as we research 8 Ancient African Civilizations and their lasting impacts. Lastly, we explore the influence of the Classical Age with Greece, Rome, the Gupta Empire and Imperial China as the topics.
The second semester of this course begins with the Middle Ages, comparing western Europe, eastern Europe, and the rising Islamic empires. Next, students analyze the Renaissance, Reformation, Age of Exploration, and the Scientific Revolution and examine their impacts on society. Students end the term with analyzing the political revolutions of France, Haiti, and Latin America.
