Note: If students sign up for Advanced Placement Seminar for their required English credit, they may also sign up for English 10A as an elective English credit during their first/second quarter sophomore year ONLY.
English 10A provides instruction in basic writing skills development through word stems. The students will learn to construct sentences, develop paragraphs, and organize and write longer compositions. Students will also receive instruction on and develop an ACT-style argument essay. The literature unit provides a more in-depth study of non-fiction. Students will read contemporary non-fiction books as part of book groups and as independent choice books.
English 10B includes a unit in media literacy which emphasizes media analysis and criticism. Research techniques continue with stress placed on written communications. An all-class novel will provide an opportunity to review the elements of fiction.
