Students who are highly motivated may have the opportunity to do an independent study (IS), overseen by a teacher, in an area of study not covered by the existing school curriculum. The purpose of an IS is to continue developing the knowledge and skills in a particular area of interest. This is a truly independent experience, not a one-on-one class. The student is expected to be self-directed and able to work without direct teacher oversight for stretches of time. A student should spend the equivalent of a full class period per day on this IS. An IS outline of the work the student plans to do during the semester must be approved by the instructor and submitted during the registration process. An IS must be approved by the Principal and scheduled in advance of the semester in which the IS is taken.

Students are allowed to take up to 2 credits of experience based course offerings that best fit their needs or interests.
Independent study courses will count towards the 2 credit experience based course offering maximum.
