American Literature explores the connection between the present and past through literature. Multiple texts are explored to supplement an understanding of the canon of American literature to better understand the wealth of experiences and voices in America. Students will have opportunities to read The Things They Carried, A Raisin in the Sun, and Being an Indian in the 21st Century, in addition to many short stories, poems, and other novels by both famous and lesser known American authors. Writing activities are integrated into the various units of study.
