Meditation

'Counting breaths meditation' (CBM)  is a 2500 year old Buddhist meditation practice. I adapted it to suit the modern lifestyle. Tested it on a wide range of people from 4 years to over 90 years over 20 years. The feedback from own practice and that of others have shaped it into what it is today.

What is special about CBM as presented in this website?

You don't need to join a program to learn and practice it. You can learn from this website and begin practicing the same day.

You will feel the calmness with a couple of minutes of practice.

You will realize its practicality and usefulness in a few minutes.

You will gain the confidence that you can practice it everyday.

You don't have to drop any of your current activities for practicing this meditation. You will use the windows of time in the daily life during which your mind wanders.

You don't have to sit in a particular posture or be still.

There are no time limits for its practice. A few breaths or a few minutes of practice are fine.

Once your practice is well set, your mind will trigger 'focus on breathing' by itself. This will happen in about 6 months of following the suggestions.  You will be de-stressing in auto mode!

Stress management

I found easy ways of reducing stress from studies, own practice and reports from clients.

I first train the clint in 'counting breaths meditation'.  When meditation becomes a daily routine, the clients gain some relief. But many clients are still in a lot of stress. In such cases, I found that their stress has its roots in unhappy relationships. See next section.

Relationships

Many clients didn't get relief from stress though their meditation is well established. It is often due to unhealthy relationships. It could be with parents, siblings, relatives, bosses, colleagues or direct reports.

I counsel the client to view the stressful relationship from a different perspective. Together we identify who is contributing to the problem and to what extent.  Then we develop ways of changing the dysfunctional thoughts and responses. We develop better ways of thinking and responding.

In cases of abuse, I help the client break the spell of the abuser and gain clarity on what is happening and get over fear.

I have seen many clients come in distress, some even crying from the trauma they endured for years. Many people experienced remarkable change AFTER they practiced 'counting breaths meditation'. They begin to smile.

Most people become self-sufficient in less than 6 months with follow up sessions.  Some need more time.

How I work with the client

I try to be available to the client when needed. I don't set strict time limits for our sessions.

I follow up with the client by messages, calls and emails  until one comes out of the distress zone. I taper off the follow up as the client progresses.

I don't keep a record of the time spent by all the above modes.

Charges

I don't expect payment from clients unable to pay. Others can decide how much they want to pay.
