Vätteryd Stenar

The Vätteryd grave-field is the best preserved rave-field in Skåne. It includes 375 erected stones left today, but there were probably up to 600 in the past, as attested by a drawing published in 1822. There are 15 stone ships, two rectangular stone graves and 185 solitary standing stones. The stone ships are between 11 and 25 metres long and between 4 to 8 metres wide.

An archeological survey carried-out in 1955-1957 showed that the place was used for cremations. Ashes of family members of several generations were being spread in and around the stone ships. Numerous small burial pits have been identified, which included pieces of bronze jewelery, glass beads and siver threads.

The place is known to have been occupied since 3,500 B.C..
