Utö north harbour, August 2010

Utö is a nice stopover along the fairway up the Stockholm archipelago. The guest harbour is split in the north habour and the south pontoon. The guest harbour can accomodate 250 boats, mostly stern on buoy or anchor and bow to the pier. A few alongside berth can be negotiated with the harbour captain. Off season, one can moore alongisde in the southern harbour, which tens to be much calmer than the north harbour. All facilities are available at Utö guest harbour, including renting of bikes. In addition, there are couple of restaurant, a foodstore and a renowned bakery.

On the southern end of Kyrkviken, there are two Svenska KryssarKlubb buoys accessible for members. Ankoring is well protected in Kyrkaviken, but should be done without interfering with the ferry channel heading to Spränga.

The southern part of the island is still a large military base with firing practices regularly. During fire practices, hte south part of the island is closed to visitors, and the west part of Utö waters are closed to navigation. Check the Notice to mariner on the Sjöfartsverket website.

By boat

The access to Utö harbour is straight forward from the fairway. The mill on top of the island represents a very good land mark to spot the entrance of the chanel to the north harbour. Yet,, the south harbour is much quieter, yet further from the services...
