Lackö Castle

The Lackö Castle is the pearl of the Vänern lake. It operates as an hotel, a restaurant, perform operas, holds exhibitions and is maintaining a very nice garden.

This is the castle of Gabriel Magnus de la Gardie. He was born in 1622 in Tallinn that was pat of the Swedish Kingdom at the time. His grand father was Baron Pontus De la Gardie, a French mercenary who had been in Danish service but made a career in Sweden after having been captured by Swedish troops in 1565. He was the favourite Of Queen Christina because of his culture, political sense and capacities to organise extravagant festivities. He marriedf the queen cousin, Maria Euphrosyne of Zweibrücken. During the rest of his life he went through political up and dons but reamins today as the patrons of science an arts in Swedish history.
