Trosa
Trosa is an interesting small city south of Stockholm. The harbour, at the mouth of the Trosa river is getting however quite shallow due to post glacial land uplift with depth not exceeding 1.8 metres. The city was already moved in the early XVII century because of the post glacial land uplift.
The city has a long history, starting in the XIVth century. In 1610 it received its status of township from King Karl IX. In 1719, the town was burnt by Russian invqders. Only the church was spared from the fire as they used it as a stable.
The city was long known for its tanning activity. Many artists and famous people have summer houses in Trosa, inclding the Swedish Royal Family.
Of interest is the Trosa Lands Kyrka (see map), the Tullgarns castle (see map) and the Nynäs castle (see map) that can be visited during the season.
