Utklippan

View to the northern island and the harbour, from the lighthouse, July 2017.

Utklippan is a spot not to miss when passing around south-east Sweden. It consists of two small islands, Södraskär (South skerry) and Norraskär (North skerry). The harbour on Norraskär is very well protected from the sea in all directions. The harbour fee is to be paid to the hamn master who will tour the boats in the evening. There is water and electricity. The lighthouse and fortress was built between 1840 and 1870 but is no longer in use. The lighthouse master and three watchmen were living in the yellow houses with their families. In the common garden they grew vegetables and herbs. They kept cows, sheep, pigs, hens, geese and ducks. The lighthouse is ususally open and a visit is not to be missed. The rocks around are hosting a large community of seals.
