Skeppsmalen

Skeppsmalen is an improbable place to enter with a 45 feet sailing boat. Navionics indicates the harbour area shallower than 50 cm! However, our Swedish pilot book says that it is currently 1.2 metre inside the harbour. I can therefore confirm that one can enter with one metre draft boat. Skeppsmalen is a lilliput land. Our 21 metre mast is twice as high as anything around here.

Skeppsmalen used to be an island when it was established in late 1600s'. It was another settlement of the Gävle fishermen coming here to fish from May to September every year. The Skeppsmalen chapel was established in 1800s'.

Skeppsmalen hosts the only museum for fermented fish (sturströmming) and fermented fish can be tasted at the Skeppsmalen restaurant.
