Saltsjöbaden church
The church of revelation in Saltsjöbaden was built between 1910 and 1913. It aws opened 18 May 1913. The building is a combination of romantism and art nouveau. The church was donated by the Wallenberg family and Knut and Alice Wallemberg are buried in the crypt of the church. Best artists of the time were mobilised: Carl Millès did the bronze doors, the baptismal font, the altar sculptures and the woden statues, Olle Hjortzberg painted the figures on the walls and ceilings, while Filip Mansson and Oscar Brandt Berg painted decorative paintings on walls and ceiling.
The marble altar was conceived by Ferdinand Boberg. Carl Millés sculpted the four reliefs in alabaster in the altar. The baptismal font is carved in dark granite and sculpted by Carl Milles. Dragons and demons are depicted at the foot of the christening font.
Knut Agaton Wallenberg and Alice Wallenberg rests in tombs made of black granite in the crypt decorated by Bizantine-style mosaic decoration (below on left).
The monumental brass doors are illustrated with bas-reliefs from Carl Milles depicting scenes from the bible as the medieval gates or German Romantic churches. The right door shows the joy of life while the left door represents misery and misfortune.
