Kvitsøy

Kvitsøy is a small island with a population of around 500 and located two nautical miles from Stavanger. The island is engulfed by the Gulf Stream resulting in the fact that the sea is never frozen around the island.

The lighthouse is worth a visit. There is a museum of lobster (Hummermuseet).

The main guest pier is the Town Quay at Ydstebøhamn (see below), but several alternative are possible, such as Røssøy, a guest quay over the sound of old town quay on Rossøyna, Sandrenna, a guest quay in Hønsavika and Grøningen, a natural harbour to the south end of the island.

By commercial transport

There is a ferry betwen Stavanger and Kvitsøy in 35 minutes.

By own boat

The Town Quay at Ydstebøhamn has electricity, fresh water, toilets, showers and washing machine. 150 NOK per night, to be paid in the honesty box. The approach can be tricky because of the currents varying much according to winds and tides.
