Helsinki

Suomenlinna is one of the marinas where to stay in Helsinki. Suomenlinna is well connected with the market place at the centre of Helsinki. There is a ferry every 20 minutes, taking 20 minutes for the ride. Running until 2 in the morning! Other options for marinas are available for staying in Helsinki, but at a much more expensive cost.

Among many cultural sitesq in Helsinki, the Ateneum art museum, a must see in Helsinki, along with the Design museu. Of particular interest in the Ateneum were the paintings relating to the Kalevala, the great national epic of Karelia and Finland. The painting below on right is by Robert Wilhelm Ekman. It represents Ilmatar, a virgin spirit of the air who went into the sea and was impregnated by the wind. A duck flying over her laid an egg on her knee who gave birth to earth, the sky, the sun, the moon and the stars. That should talk to sailors!
