Ulriksdal Castle

Ulriksdal palace is located 6 km from Central Stockholm, in the Solna municipality. The palace was built in the 1640s' and until 1821, he plaid a central place in the court life in Sweden, hosting successively Queen Hedvig Eleonora, her grand son Prince Ulric who gave its name to the castle while dying at the age of one, the King Adolf Frederick and Queen Louisa Ulrika, and their son, the King Gustav III. It was unhabited after the death of the queen dowager of Gustav III, Sophia Magdalena of Denmark in 1813.

From 1821 until 1842, it was transformed as a hoispital for the veteran of the Russian wars the Russo-Swedish War of 1808–1809. After 1856, the palace became the summer residence of King Charles XV. Under Oscar II reign, it became the summer residence of Queen Sophia.

The castle is open to the public since 1986.

Getting there

By public transport

Ulriksdal palace can be reached from Central Stockholm in 30 to 45 minutes.

By own boat

There is a small pontoon at the castle that can be used by sisitors. However, there is a bridge lmiting the air draft to 8 metres.
