Ice sailing, or ice yatching as we should say is very popular in Sweden as in other Sacandinavian countries. While the open sea is not very favourable for ice yatching, the Mälaren or the inner Archipelago coves and bays are very well suited because they tend to freeze deeply, unaffected by the ferry traffic still taking place in the outer archipelago. On a typical weekend in January of February, you will encounter with envy these very fast sailing "boats".
A good ice yatch can easily go over 100 km/h on ice when wind conditions are Ok. One of the most popular and cheapest iceboat class is the DN, standing for Detroit News, as you can see on the picture below.
