Strömsund

in Väderöarna

A secret from Swedish sailors. Strömsund is not indicated on the charts, just on the west of Storö. It is a very good shelter since 1600 where fishermen were seeking shelter during storms. Then, a pilot station was created because of the high number of ships that wrecked here. This place (Strömsund, the sound whith current) has a big wooden quay but shallow passages: the water is transparent, keep an eye on your draft as in some places along the quay, I had only 1.40 m depth. Moor alongside the quay, in order to let the passage for others boats.

You will need the tender to go to Storö. Don't miss the very famous restaurant there!

The old Pilot Tower (36 steps). The wooden planks were used to count the number of sailors hitting the rock in the middle of Storö bay, till 2013. After they put a buoy, but in 2015 it was gone! Strömsund is better and less crowded in summer.
