Taxinge Castle

Taxinge castle is located in Näsby, a viking area first mentioned in writing in a document mentioning that the farm estate was donated to the cathedral of Strangnäs. It became an investment managed by different owners, until Gustav Vasa abolished the Roman Catholic Church. As the fars went back to the state, various owners run the estate. Most of the estate was sold to Södertälje in 1969 and in 1983 to the Näsby commun. Only a small area around the buildings remained private and in 1979, a small café was established, which became a very successful conference centre and reknowned place for its pastry buffet and celebration e.g. weddings.

This sign post was set during a friendship association visit to Taxinge by steamboat from Stockholm. As it was popular to do so at these times, these signs are usually called "steamboat crosses".

But after all, what Taxinge castle is most famous for is its desert buffet that you can experience all year long, in the park in the summer or in the castle dining rooms during winter.

Getting there

By public transport

The Taxinge castle can be accessed in summer through a day tour between Stockholm and Mariefred, using a combination of an old steam boat and an old train (see links). Otherwise, it is difficult to access through public transports in less than 3 hours and a half!

By own boat

The castle has a very small visitor pontoon, where small boats can moor using stern buoys and bow to the pontoon. Larger boats can use the ferry pier (where the sign is on the map), on the west side of the pier, or to use the ferry place at the end of the pier when there is no ferry coming. Check on the web site in useful link to verify.
