Djurö

Hiking trials in Djurö National Park

Djurö is a pearl in the Vänern lake. The Djurö National Park is a sanctuary for birds for nesting. As a result, some areas are forbidden at certain periods. We chose the shallow mooring of Malbergs hamn where you can anchor almost anywhere including on the SXK buoys for the members of the Swedish Cruising Association. The island is covered with untouched forest, most impressive.

A story says that in 1915, the lighthouse watchman went to Mariestad for shopping, leaving his two sons (13 and 15 year old) behind. A cold snap freezes the lake overnight and kids got stranded for 4 months!

Getting there

The Djurö archipelago has no established marina but several natural harbour such as Årans hamn or Malbergs hamn where there is a SXK buoy.
