PC Estimating is a powerful estimating solution that enables contractors to effectively create proposal estimates for new, upcoming projects. One of the most powerful features of PC Estimating is that it provides an integration between the Vista ERP solution and the estimation world, allowing for proposals to be placed into job cost areas within Vista. This capability is provided by a full integration between the PC Estimating client and the Vista client itself. As such, when using PC Estimating with Vista, it is necessary to have both the PC Estimating client and the Vista client on the same workstation, whether that workstation is an RDP instance in our cloud or your local workstation on premise
As you may already know, Vista now has the capability of using Vista Remote Link (VRL) to provide the ability for a locally installed Vista client to communicate to a Vista server over the Internet using HTTPS. This model, similar to Microsoft outlook, provides a significant number of advantages for Vista users. Unfortunately, though PC Estimating uses the power of a full, rich client experience just as Vista does, PC Estimating does not have the equivalent to a VRL technology.
As such, when using PC Estimating in our cloud, it is necessary to utilize our older cloud hosting technology, RDP Published Applications. This technology was used for Vista cloud hosting during the days of Viewpoint Enterprise Cloud, the cloud technology just previous to TC1/VP1.
The use of PC estimating is one of ONLY two exceptions to the current prohibition of the use of Trimble Viewpoint's Terminal Servers to host client-side apps.
The other exception is for users who are seeing significant network performance issues, and those only as a last resort, with approval, after all other avenues have been exhausted.
Due to the fact that PC Estimating must be hosted in our cloud in a terminal services RDP model, and due to the fact that Vista must be present on the same client workstation as PC Estimating, Vista must also be hosted and accessed over our older RDP Published Applications technology model, even when you as the customer have a TC1/VP1 contract.
As Vista requires the use of various third-party applications in the same client workstation as Vista, even more third-party applications must be hosted in the RDP terminal server along with Vista if PC Estimating is utilized. These integrations include, but are not limited to:
Microsoft office (Office 365 E3 or higher license required for hosting in RDP)
Adobe Acrobat reader
Insight software spreadsheet Server
