Integration Method: Hosted Data Connector
Hosted: YES
Additional Charge: YES - Viewpoint Professional Services Customization Project; NO additional / recurring hosting charge; on-going PS charges for connector maintenance
As per many other server-side integrations to third-party products, our ADP integration is designed to use a hosted data connector (a.k.a. a shim) that speaks to the Vista database directly using ODBC and then itself connects to ADP.
The ADP integration requires a customization project by Viewpoint Professional Services (PS) to tie the ADP solution into your company's specific coding for hours and pay. This can happen either on-premise or in our cloud. In addition, if this integration is implemented initially on-premise, there is a PS fee to move this connector to the Vista server in the cloud when the customer moves to the cloud. However, no additional hosting charges are required, as this is a Viewpoint-provided solution.
In all, there are three charges for ADP, all by Viewpoint Professional Services Consulting:
Initial Integration: Charge to develop and tie the integration into Vista fields.
Integration Maintenance: Charge to maintain ADP connector for reasons such as tax compliance.
Cloud Move: Charge to adjust settings in ADP data connector when customer moves to the cloud.
There is no ongoing charge by Viewpoint to host the ADP connector in our cloud.
There are two methods for accessing the ADP file folder if you would like to download and obtain files generated by the ADP integration:
RDP Published Applications File Explorer
IPSEC VPN method
With either method, the ADP folder will be a mapped drive, pointing to a directory located on the Vista database server.
In addition, with either method, you will need to update cloud security to allow the users who need to access these files to be able to browse to them.
Security for accessing the ADP folder is controlled by adding cloud users to the ADP Active Directory Groups on your Cloud Workspace portal. The user must be added to the ADP Cloud Workspace Group. Any users in this group would have access to the ADP files.
NOTE: To grant access to the ADP file folder you must be a Cloud Workspace administrator.
Steps:
Open the cloud workspace portal: https://viewpoint.partner.manage.cloudworkspace.com
Once logged in, browse to the Users and Groups page.
Select the ADP Group.
Select the users who need access to these files.
Click Update.
NOTE: This method is primarily used by customers who either do NOT have any VPNs into the Viewpoint cloud or use the TLS Database Endpoint (TLS VPN) instead of an IPSEC VPN.
Browse to your Trimble Viewpoint cloud RDP portal.
paste the following URL into your browser, BUT DO NOT HIT ENTER YET: https://ra.viewpointcloud.net/CODE
Replace the "CODE" in the URL with your 3-4 character alphanumeric company code and then hit Enter
You will be presented with the following RDP Login Screen
2. Enter your username in the form of username@COMPANYCODE
This is usually in the form of username@emailaddressdomain.com, but it can sometimes be different.
3. Enter your normal cloud (Vista) password.
4. You will then be presented with a list of the published applications to which you have access. File Explorer should be one of them.
5. Click on the File Explorer icon. A new RDP file will be downloaded to your local computer.
6. Once the RDP file is open, you may see a security notice appear. Please approve the connection.
7. Next, you will see the login for terminal services appear. Please enter your same "Terminal Services" login into that dialog box. It will be in the form of username@COMPANYCODE
8. Once the connection is established, you will see a notice about being connected to a RemoteApp session appear on the bottom right of your computer's screen
9. The File Explorer window for the RDP session will then appear.
10. Browse to the "P" drive to find your ADP files.
11. Use the file explorer functions to "copy" the files into your clipboard.
12. On the left-hand side, browse until you see your local "C" drive reflected. Then browse into the local "C" drive for your workstation to find the folder into which you would like to have the ADP files placed. It should be shown in the form of "C on COMPUTERNAME", where your local workstation's computer name is shown.
13. Once you are in the correct folder on your local workstation, merely "Paste" the files into that folder.
14. Once the files are copied, you may proceed with submitting them to ADP as per normal.
Once users have been added into the ADP user group in the cloud workspace portal, they then have the permissions to mount the remote directory as a drive letter. Please note that this communication will happen over the SMB protocol. You must open your firewall rules to allow for communications over this protocol. Please make a note of the private IP address of the Vista database server prior to continuing with these steps.
Steps:
Open Windows Explorer.
Right-click on network.
Select Map Network Drive.
Pick a drive letter.
Enter the address of the remote file share as a UNC path (e.g. \\yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy\ADP). Replace the -wise with the actual private IP address of your Vista database server in the cloud.
Check the "Reconnect" box
Check the "connect using different credentials" box
enter your service account credentials that has been granted access to the ADP folder in the previous step.
Click OK
Click Finish
Now you may browse to the drive letter that you have mounted and should thus have access to the ADP folder.
tl;dr: Customers who need to integrate ADP with Vista in our cloud need to work with Viewpoint PS to first link the connector to ADP, then pay ongoing maintenance for this integration, then pay PS to customize the connector to point to the new Vista server in our cloud. We then install the cloud connector to ADP in your environment. Hosting will be at no additional charge beyond the PS fees for ongoing maintenance of this data connector (item #2 above). If you wish to download the files from the ADP connector, you will need to download them from a mapped folder either over the IPSEC VPN or RDP.
