How can I change the username of a user in Vista?

Overall

The steps to change the username of a user in Vista are pretty straightforward. However, please note that you cannot DIRECTLY change the username of a Vista user. Vista's internal architecture prevents that step. Instead, you must create a completely new user, with the appropriate username, and then copy security from the old user to the new user.

Pre-Requisites

• If you need to change an existing user's name in the cloud, please change the name for the user in the cloud web admin portal first: How do I change a username in the Cloud Admin Portal?

• Please make certain you have the user's existing and desired future username handy.

• Please make sure you know the 3-4 character unique alphanumeric code assigned to your cloud instance; you will use it in Vista

NOTE: It is CRITICAL that the core of the username of the user in Vista EXACTLY MATCHES the username of the user in the cloud admin portal. If they do not match, the user will be unable to log in.

For example: a user with the username of jsmith@companyidentifier.com in the cloud web admin portal should have the username of VIEWPOINT\jsmith.COMPANYCODE

Detailed Steps

Please follow the subsequent steps to update the username for the user in Vista:

1. Log in to Vista and then open VA User Profile form, located in Viewpoint Administration (VA) menu.

2. Click the Info tab.

3. Then Click the "New Record" icon in the toolbar.

4. Create your new user, along with their email address and desired username.

5. The username can be looked up by doing an "F4" lookup. Merely press the F4 key when your cursor is in the username field. Then scroll until you find the VIEWPOINT\username.companycode that has the correct, new username. Then select that user.

6. Save the new user.

7. Then click the button on the right of the VA User Profile form to "Copy Security".

8. Find the user from which you would like to copy security and then select them to copy security.

This will complete the process of setting up the new username for your user. You now have the option to delete or merely disable the old user account.
