Customers will often notice it with Vista installations that there are a number of built-in accounts, data source names, and service logins that are created. These objects begin with the three letters, "vcs", in front of them. For example, "vcsSSRSDataSource".
Customers will often wonder if these service accounts may be utilized by their custom code, third-party integrations, or staff members, to get to the resources to which these accounts are granted access. Unfortunately, utilizing these "vcs" accounts in any way outside of the Viewpoint solution itself is not supported. For example, the vcsSSRSDataSource DSN is used as a data source name by Vista's SSRS reporting solution; it should only be used by Vista itself and not by third party integrations or individual human beings. Please note that even Viewpoint staff do not routinely use these resources.
To obtain access to the resources that you need, or to create additional data sources for reporting by third-party applications, and more, you should create specific, unique user accounts, data source names, etc. explicitly designed for those purposes.
