Security best practices have for many years have recommended to people to disable the receipt of third-party cookies (browser cookies sent by systems in domains to which the web browser is not specifically communicating). The result is to both ensure a cleaner workstation environment, and to, more significantly, reduce security and privacy risks that can be conveyed through the use of third-party cookies. As a result, many web browsers today block the receipt of third-party cookies entirely. In addition, many corporate IT departments can often configure browsers to restrict the receipt of third-party cookies.
However, such restrictions can, from time to time, cause negative impact to the functionality of various applications, including TC1/VP1.
When restricting third-party cookies, we can cause negative impacts to the functioning of certain technologies. For example, restricting the receipt of cookies from Captcha tools can often cause those systems to persistently prompt the user to fill out captcha challenges; a frustrating situation for end users to be prompted time and again. Some other elements of our ERP cloud solutions that can be negatively impacted by blocking third party cookies include: Trimble ID logins, saving portal customization, and more.
Given the above, a compromise to balance the two extremes becomes necessary.
A more nuanced approach to take, rather than either blanket allowing all third-party cookies, or preventing all of them, is to limit third-party cookies to being received from specific URLs / domains. in that type of situation, the customer would either themselves, or by partnering with their IT, continue to block third party cookies, save for the following domains:
*.trimble.com
*.viewpoint.com
*.viewpointforcloud.com
*.viewpointdata.cloud
*.viewpoint.cloud
*.hcaptcha.com
