Once approved as a VPN-connected integration partner into Viewpoint's cloud, the next steps to connect from Vista to a third party integration are quite straightforward:
1. Submit a request to Viewpoint for a new VPN endpoint to connect to the integration
* This would be either to the third party cloud or to the customer's on-premise environment; whereever the third party server is located.
* If you (the customer) have already purchased a VPN, no additional VPN purchase is needed
* Supply Viewpoint with the IP address of the third party server / component and ensure that your firewall has been opened for SQL traffic over port 1433 and 1434.
* Here are some detailed steps for requesting a VPN: How do I set up an IPSEC VPN to access my Vista database directly?
2. Work with the third party to ensure their software is installed on the appropriate server.
3. Test connectivity to the Vista database from that server once the VPN is connected: there may be firewall rules to edit.
4. Obtain a SQL Service account for the third-party component to talk to Vista (IF NECESSARY). There are two options to obtain this account:
a. Use the Vista VA User Profile form to create a new account in Vista. Use these instructions here: I need a dedicated SQL account for my integration to Vista in your cloud. How do I set that up?
(1) DO NOT CHECK ALLOW VRL LOGIN (Not needed for service accounts)
(2) Use the username formats on the page linked above.
(3) With this method, YOU are responsible for assigning the correct permissions to the service accounts using COPY SECURITY.
b. Request a SQL service account from Viewpoint cloud support.
5. Work with the third party configure their software to point to the new Vista server's IP address.
6. Sip your favorite libation. You're done!
