Welcome to Viewpoint's Vista Cloud - Environment Initial Availability Letter

Post date: Mar 18, 2020 9:51:54 PM

The following is an example of the Welcome letter you will receive in your email when your initial environment is made available for you to test in our cloud.

Once again, thank you for joining the Viewpoint cloud community.

Your Viewpoint Vista cloud environment is initially available and ready for you to login. Please note that your data has NOT yet been migrated. The accessible Vista cloud environment has a sample company loaded. You are able to login and see that the Vista application is the same product experience that you have been using in production on-premise. Please see below for an example of what that information will look like your specific client install information.

Client Install Information

Client Name: XXXX

Company Code: xxxx

Admin User: FIRSTNAME LASTNAME

Cloud Login: email_address

Temp Password: LINK TO RETRIEVE

    • NOTE: this link is good for only seven (7) days. Please contact Viewpoint if you are attempting to use it after the seven day expiration period.

Important Note:

    • It is recommended that new users change their temporary password immediately upon their initial login.

Viewpoint maintains a website that contains to-the-minute information on the status of all of our cloud solutions and data centers by region.

Cloud Status website: http://status.viewpoint.com

The next step will be to migrate your Vista data to the new environment. Following that, there will be a training session for you that will cover the administration of your new cloud environment.

Please note that additional answers to many frequently asked questions are located in the Vista Cloud FAQ (this site!):

https://sites.google.com/a/trimble.com/vista-cloud-faq

Please see below for detailed instructions for administering users, connecting to your applications, and configuring printing and scanning.

Cloud Interaction

There are two major areas of interaction with our cloud with which you will need to become familiar: administration of user accounts (if you are a customer admin) and accessing your applications.

User Admin:

To administer the users in your Viewpoint cloud environment, you will need to use our user admin portal (provided by CloudJumper). To access it, please use the following link:

Admin Portal: https://viewpoint.partner.manage.cloudworkspace.com

Training on the User Admin Portal is located here:

User Admin Portal Training: https://help.viewpoint.com/content/vista/2020-r2/cloud-deployment/cloud-deployment/vista-remote-link-vrl/about-vrl-cloud/about-the-vrl-cloud-admin-portal

○ NOTE: The process to administer users for is the same for all Viewpoint cloud-hosted ERP customers, save for Jobpac and Spectrum. Vista and ProContractor customers can all use the instructions linked above to manage users.

Connecting to Your Applications:

There are four main methods for connecting to your cloud applications:

Vista Remote Link (VRL): This method is the default method for experiencing Vista hosted in our cloud. VRL uses the Vista rich client installed on your local laptop or desktop to connect directly to the Vista database in our cloud.

o Instructions on how to install and start your Vista rich client are located in the Vista install guide PDF on our support site.

Published Apps Feed (Vista Cloud RDP ONLY): Also known as RemoteApp, this method uses a special URL feed from us to add your published applications as icons on your workstation. Applications accessed this way will be seamless to your end users, appearing as if they are running locally.

o NOTE: Recommended approach for Vista cloud users still using RDP instead of VRL

Running the Cloud Jumper Application (Cloud workspace for Windows Client Download): This method requires the downloading and installation of the CloudJumper CloudWorkspace Client for Windows. As such, this method is only recommended if necessary.

Web Browser Portal (VFC RDP ONLY): An HTML 5 portal that allows for customers to see a virtual desktop embedded in a web browser.

IMPORTANT VRL NOTE:

If you are connecting to Vista Cloud using VRL, you must use the locally installed Vista client on your local machine, not the Vista Cloud RDP (published app). You can see which one you are using by looking at the Vista icon in the Windows Taskbar. If the icon shows a small white circle with two green arrows within it, then you have started the wrong one - that green arrow circle signifies that you are using an RDP published app. See graphics below:

Pro Tip: You might also notice a difference in the Vista server information as well. RDP connections use server names that do NOT have https:// at the front (they are not URLs), whereas VRL connections are actual web HTTP URLs using the format of “https://” followed by the server name.

Locating the VRL Rich Client

Please locate the actual, real Vista rich client that was installed previous on your local PC and start that application.

The actual Vista rich client, after installation, is usually found in the Windows Start Menu. Look under Viewpoint Construction Software, and for Vista by Viewpoint within that folder.

See the graphic below:

Application Connection Links and Downloads

The following information will help you to connect to your hosted applications in our cloud.

Vista Cloud VRL (Vista Remote Link) Connections:

You will need to download and install the Vista rich client before attempting to connect to Vista in our cloud using VRL. If you already have the Vista rich client installed, you will need to uninstall your old version of Vista completely prior to installing the one for our cloud.

NOTE: prior versions of Vista’s server are NOT compatible with the newer Vista clients (6.19 and higher).

As such, any workstation on which you install the newer version of Vista will be unable to communicate with any existing on-premise Vista server. We recommend that you test your new cloud environment using a new, dedicated workstation or virtual machine intended only for testing your new cloud environment. This way, you do not create any conflicts with your existing production on-premise Vista install.

Download and Install Vista Rich Client:

To download and install the Vista rich client, you will need to:

    1. Go to our download page for the current version of Vista. This is located at https://support.viewpoint.com.

    2. Click on the downloads area and then click on Vista

    3. Then click on the link for the .00 initial release of the current version of Vista.

      1. E.g., Vista 6.19 would be listed as Vista 6.19.00.

    4. Browse through the folder and locate the .EXE file for the Vista client. This should be about 300mb in size.

    5. Download the file and install it.

    6. Once installed, you may use the client to connect to Vista in the cloud.

NOTE: We recommend using the .EXE version of the file, rather than the .MSI version.

Specifically, the .EXE version contains all of the prerequisite files and libraries that are needed for Vista to function properly. Due to the nature of .MSI files, this file only contains Vista and all other dependencies must be downloaded and installed separately. The .MSI file is only needed for specific circumstances having to do with Windows deployment models. If you are not familiar with the specifics of this, you likely need the .EXE.

Connecting to Vista

Once Vista is installed, you can open it and use the URL listed below, modified with your company code (“xxxx” corresponds to the company code you were issued), to connect to Vista.

VRL Server URL (for VRL Users ONLY): https://xxxx-vrl/viewpointcloud.com

Login Steps:

Click the plus sign next to the server name field

Paste in the server URL above (modified with your company code)

Click the check mark to accept your server name entry

Put in your username given you previously

UNcheck the “Use Windows Login” box

Vista Cloud RDP Connection Details:

You will need to connect your workstation to the cloud terminal services environment that hosts your client applications, including Vista, prior to opening and logging into Vista. The links below are important for setting up your published apps feed in the Windows Control Panel (preferred for RDP), or downloading and using the Cloud Workspace Client.

Printing and Scanning in the RDP Cloud

(for Vista Cloud via RDP ONLY)

To print and scan from our RDP-based clouds effectively, you will need to use TSPrint and TSScan. Installing these solutions is a two-step process: installing a server-side component (Viewpoint will handle this), and installing drivers on your local workstation(s).

If you are hosted with an RDP-based Viewpoint cloud solution, please download and install the following clients for TSScan and TSPrint.
