What are the Detailed Differences for the end user between RDP (AVD), LAN Method, and Vista Remote Link (VRL)? RDP/LAN vs. LAN Direct vs. VRL
Author: Eric Vasbinder
What is different about RDP (Azure Virtual Desktop / AVD) and VRL? What does the end user see?
Please see this previous article for more information about the architectural differences between VRL and RDP:
For the most part, the end user will only be interacting with Vista in each hosting method. However, the manner in which they interact with Vista is different depending on which method is used. At a high level:
With VRL:
The client runs locally, so many interactions with local resources are more user friendly and easier to handle.
Certain components of Vista, such as the Crystal Viewer and uploading files to the Viewpoint Repository (e.g. Custom Crystal Reports) are different.
With RDP (AVD):
The components of Vista itself are exactly the same as on-premise.
The solution can be used anywhere, without the need to install the Vista rich client.
Various end user interactions with local resources are different and may be slower than on-premise (e.g. printing, scanning, and drag and drop of files). In addition, linking to Vista from Team and ViewpointOne is not available.
HERE IS A VIDEO OVERVIEW OF THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN USING VISTA IN AN ON-PREMISE LAN METHOD ENVIRONMENT (RDP CLOUD COUNTS HERE) AND WITH VRL IN OUR CLOUD
PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO!
This video is an EXCELLENT introduction to the differences you will see between both on-premise and RDP Cloud based Vista and VRL: https://player.vimeo.com/video/471384022
Here is a table that goes through the differences in more detail:
