CRITICAL NOTE: this article is ONLY applicable to users who log in to our RDP terminal services to access Vista or other client-side applications that are hosted in our cloud.
This article does NOT apply to Trimble ID SSO sign ends or to sign ins with Vista Remote Link (VRL), UNLESS those VRL users are making use of our older login name format "VIEWPOINT\username.code"
IMPORTANT
Logging in to AVD via a real, installable client program is our preferred option to experience RDP in our cloud over AVD. If you cannot use a real, installed, native application, you may also log in to AVD/RDP with a web browser.
Please see the following cloud FAQ article for step by step instructions on how to log in via the web client:
Logging In - Via Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Web Client (BACKUP ONLY)
You may encounter an error during the login process that says, "User does not exist in tenant" or "Sorry, but we are having trouble signing you in." The cause of this may be your cached Microsoft credentials from your existing, primary, AD/Azure AD account. Please walk through signing in to the AVD client using your regular, primary Azure AD (Entra ID) account first, then unsubscribe from the newly added account in the Remote Desktop client. Then proceed through the steps below to log in with your real, Trimble AVD account, which has a different username from your standard Microsoft Azure AD account.
For more details, and step by step instruction on how to work around this problem with cached Microsoft credentials, please set up an AVD subscription using your actual AD account (e.g. "email@company.com", then set up another with your new AVD Viewpoint cloud account (e.g. "first.lastname.code@viewpoint.cloud"). This should all be done in the AVD Client. Then, once added, please remove the redundant entry (should be blank) for your main Azure AD account.
The following series of steps will walk you through the process of logging into your Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) account. Please remember these steps are exactly the same, no matter which AVD client is being used.
If you have NOT signed in to your AVD account yet, if this is the first time to signin, you will need to follow the instructions listed here:
Use your computer's search function, or find the icon in the start menu, etc. to open your AVD client of choice (see this article for links to download an AVD client: How to Choose and Download the Proper Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Client) and click the icon.

The following set of steps are only applicable to your first sign in to AVD.
1. Microsoft will ask you to set up multifactor authentication (MFA). Please click the "Next" button.

2. You will now be able to choose the MFA option that you would like to use. We highly recommend the Microsoft Authenticator application as it tends to be quite convenient and more secure than other options, such as SMS cell phone text messaging. However, if you wish you may click the "I want to set up a different method" link on the bottom left which will allow you to choose between SMS text and a Google authenticator style time-based code (.a.k.a. TOTP).
NOTE: We will only be documenting the steps to use Microsoft Authenticator. For steps to set up the other two optional methods instead, please see Microsoft online help documentation.
3. Please click "Next".

11. AVD will send a notification to your phone or tablet, while at the same time displaying a number on your computer's screen. Inside the notification on your mobile device please enter the number displayed on your computer's screen. Once entered please click "yes".

14. You will receive a notification on your computer saying that your new MFA method has been successfully added to your account. Please click done to continue

1. In the future, when logging into your AVD account, you may be prompted to enter a number into your Microsoft Authenticator application on your mobile device. This should be very similar to the items listed above.
2. Once you have entered the MFA number prompt, you will then be asked if you wish to Stay Signed in. Please select your preferred option.
