ERP Connection Overview:
As per many other server-side integrations to third-party products, this product is designed to talk to Vista's database directly using ODBC. This connection requires that the Vista server be "visible" to the third party system. To ensure that the two systems can communicate, we set up either a TLS Database Endpoint (TLS VPN) or a site to site IPSEC VPN between our cloud and theHCSS cloud or the customer environment.
NOTE: Viewpoint previously would deploy the Data Connector Client used by HCSS's solutions in our cloud in a separate, standard server that the customer would purchase. We no longer recommend this approach.
Deployment Methodology:
We do not support hosting of this product in our cloud. As such, the customer must continue to host it in either their on-premise environment or in another cloud. As a result, since this product and Vista will be on separate networks, a VPN is needed to bridge the gap between the two networks.
Detailed Instructions:
Customer: Either request that HCSS host this solution in their cloud or stand up servers in your cloud/on-premise to host the HCSS solution.
Customer: Request either a TLS Database Endpoint (TLS VPN) or an IPSEC VPN between hosting location of third party product and your environment in our cloud:
TLS Database Endpoint (TLS VPN): TLS Database Endpoint
IPSEC VPN: How do I set up an IPSEC VPN to access my Vista database directly?
Customer: Create SQL account to allow third-party to authenticate to Vista using these steps: https://sites.google.com/trimble.com/vista-cloud-faq/home/integration-technology/creating-sql-accounts
HCSS: Configure the third-party solution to talk to the IP address of the new Vista server in our cloud.
tl;dr: Customers who need to integrate HCSS Heavy Job with Vista in our cloud need to work with HCSS to host the solution outside of our Trimble Viewpoint cloud and then stand up either a TLS Database Endpoint (TLS VPN) or an IPSEC VPN.
