Product Description:
Kofax's "Capture" OCR and data mapping solution is designed to provide companies with an automated means to batch scan and OCR many invoices and other documents at a time. These documents are then OCR'd and the data parsed into specific, normalized data fields and Searchable PDF attachments that can be added into Vista.
Integration Method:
As per many other server-side integrations to third-party products, this solution needs two servers in order to function. This product creates import files in CSV format, along with associated searchable PDF file attachments, that are added into the Vista auto-imports / pickup folder (in the Viewpoint Repository). Vista then automatically imports the records and associated document attachments in to its Document Management (DM) module.
This third party solution consists of an app server (Konica Capture) and an embedded SQL Express server, as well as a client-based application "Scanning Console" that talks to the Konica Capture server.
As per above, the Konica Capture solution can be deployed in one of two different models: remotely hosted (Option A) OR Viewpoint-hosted server (Option B above).
With Option "A", there are no components of Konica Capture that are hosted by Viewpoint. The client remains on local workstations, and the server remains in an on-premise hardware. The import files are then made available to Vista in the cloud via a push to the autoimport pickup folder over the VPN. In order to make this happen, you need to ensure the pickup folder is mapped as a SMB share drive letter over your IPSEC VPN tunnel. NOTE: A service account is necessary for mounting this file share.
With Option "B", which is no longer supported for new Kofax Capture installs, Viewpoint hosts the server-side component ONLY, with the scan capture client remaining local. This is NOT preferred due to potential performance concerns, as the customer's Internet connection would be a possible bottleneck between the capture client and the Capture server, hosted in the Viewpoint Cloud. However, if implemented, Option "B" needs a single Windows standard server upon which to host the Capture server Consequently, we need to pass on the costs for an additional standard server to the customer. The final cost for "Option "B" is our nominal management fee for the time and resources expended to update, manage, and maintain this solution in our cloud.
tl;dr: Customers who need to integrate Kofax Capture with Vista in our cloud need to continue hosting it externally, connected over an IPSEC VPN.
We then coordinate with Konica to install their components on those servers.
NOTE: OPTION A, connecting Kofax Capture from an externally hosted system (a la on-premise) to Vista in the cloud by way of an IPSEC VPN tunnel, is NOW REQUIRED for new installs. Connectivity is provided over this tunnel. The automated pickup directory for OCR'd PDF files is mapped as a Windows mapped drive using SMB networking over that VPN tunnel.
