Wedelia is a plant native to Central America and the Caribbean islands, but has now spread throughout the tropics. This plant is known for its medicinal properties (diuretic). Furthermore, wedelia is also used in small amounts as a flavoring for fish and turtle meat.
Generally found in wet soil, sometimes in swamps and along the coast, up to an altitude of 700 m above sea level. Grows well in areas with temperatures around 10-30°C, rainfall 1,000-2,500 mm/year. Tolerant of high salt concentrations, moist and fertile soil at pH 5.5-7.5, loamy, well-drained soil, waterlogging and drought. Requires full sun or moderate shade.
The stems are green, rounded, and roots can grow at the nodes.
The leaves are green, ovate, 4-9 cm long and 2-5 cm wide, with serrated edges and opposite leaves.
The flowers are solitary, bright yellow, and appear in the leaf axils on stalks 3-10 cm long.
Propagation can be done by separating shoots and shoot cuttings.
Facilitates urination, treats hepatitis and malaria, reduces flu symptoms accompanied by colds, eliminates muscle cramps, rheumatism, bruises, backaches and headaches.
