(Iris Pseudacorus )
Iris pseudacorus, also known as yellow flag, yellow iris, or water flag, is a species of flowering plant in the Iridaceae family. It is native to Europe, western Asia, and northwest Africa. Its specific epithet pseudacorus means "false acorus," referring to the resemblance of its leaves to those of Acorus calamus (sweet flag), as they have a prominent central rib and a sword-like shape.
It grows best in very wet conditions and is common in wetlands, where it tolerates submersion, low pH, and anoxic soils. The plant spreads rapidly, both by rhizomes and by seeds dispersed in water. It occupies a similar niche to Typha and often grows alongside it, though usually in shallower water. Although primarily an aquatic or marginal plant, its rhizomes can survive prolonged dry conditions.
The iris plant has short rhizomes.
The leaves of the iris plant are single, and the leaf organs are lanceolate and elongated, with a pointed tip. The leaves are approximately 25 to 40 cm long and 1.5 to 3 cm wide. They are bluish-green.
Iris flowers come in a variety of colors, including purple, blue, yellow, white, purple-brown, and orange. The flower stalks are approximately 3 to 25 cm long. Iris flowers are perennials, meaning a single flower can live for more than two years.
The fruit of the iris plant is a triangular-shaped spool, while the fruit of the iris plant is square and elongated.
Iris flower propagation can be done using rhizomes or seeds.
