Landik originates from Madagascar, then spread to other tropical regions, especially Southeast Asia. The distribution of this plant in Indonesia includes Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Bali, Sulawesi, and Ambon. This plant can be grown as an ornamental plant or a hedge plant. It is believed to possess properties as a traditional medicine. This plant has antimicrobial and anti-amoebiasis activity.
Landik lives in forests or fields, growing well up to an altitude of 300 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.). It prefers open or slightly shaded places and can grow in almost all soil types. It is also resistant to hot weather. The climate does not significantly affect its growth.
Root: Taproot, dirty white color.
Stem: Round, woody, dark brown, highly branched.
Leaves: Simple (single), opposite arrangement, shiny dark green color, lanceolate shape (4–8 x 1–1.5 cm), pointed tip, narrowed base, smooth margin, fine hairs, short stalk. There is a pair of thorns on the stalk.
Flower: Calyxed, dark yellow or golden yellow, hairy sepals, flowers clustered in a spike-shaped raceme.
Fruit: Green, found in the leaf axils.
Seed: Blackish-brown and flattened.
Propagation: Generatively (seeds) and vegetatively (stem cuttings).
Cuttings: For stem cutting propagation, choose branches that are not too old.
Seeds: It is better to sow the seeds first until they reach a height of 10–15 cm.
Treats snake or dog bites, swelling due to falling or being hit, chronic skin ulcers (koreng, bisul, borok), bleeding wounds, rheumatism, and toothache.
Polyphenols, saponins, flavonoids, essential oils (cyclobutane, benzenedicarboxylic acid, 1-hentetracontanol), iridoid glycoside, lupulinoside, ipolamiide, phlororigidoside.
