Bugang Flower originates from Indonesia and the Malay Peninsula. This plant is abundant in Indonesia, often found around gardens, forest edges, and roadsides. It is frequently grown as an ornamental plant that can also be used as a medicinal herb beneficial for health.
Kembang Bugang can grow in dry conditions on the edges of forests, roadsides, and shady places at altitudes up to 1,750 meters above sea level. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and requires full sun to partial shade.
Root: Taproot, brown color.
Stem: Woody, branched, 1 cm in diameter, whitish-green color.
Leaves: Simple (single), arranged oppositely, the blade is egg-shaped (ovate), with pointed tips and bases, serrated edges, pinnate venation, 4–9 cm long, green color.
Flower: Compound, in the form of a panicle, emerging from the leaf axils, 5 white petals. Stamens and pistil stalk project out beyond the petals.
Fruit: Drupe (stone fruit), round, flattened, green when young and turning shiny black when ripe, the fruit calyx is dark red.
Seed: Hard texture, small, black color.
Propagation: Can be done vegetatively (root suckers, stem cuttings, and separating offsets) and generatively (seeds).
