Seligi is a plant native to China, India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. In Indonesia, it is commonly found in Java and Kalimantan. This plant is used as a traditional medicine and has many health benefits. Its leaves have been traditionally used to treat sprained joints. Seligi is often planted by communities as a hedge plant and bonsai plant.
This plant grows in loose, moist soil and sometimes in garbage piles. Seligi thrives at an altitude of 150–2,000 m above sea level (m.a.s.l.) with sufficient light intensity throughout the day, in fertile soil with high organic matter.
Root (Akar) Taproot, whitish-brown color.
Stem (Batang) Erect, woody, round, branched. The surface is rough and brown in color.
Leaves (Daun) Compound, arranged in a whorl around the stem. Leaflets are shiny, oval (egg-shaped), the tip is pointed (acuminate), the base is blunt, the margin is entire, and the color is green.
Flower (Bunga) Solitary (single), appearing in the leaf axils, hanging, short-stalked. Stamens are numerous, short, and yellow. The pistil is indistinct. The corolla is tube-shaped, the tip is rounded, yellow color.
Propagation is done vegetatively (stem cuttings) or generatively (seeds).
Stems for cuttings should come from the base part of a branch, with a length of 15–20 cm.
Treats sprained or twisted joints, relieves pain, and has antirheumatic activity.
Flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins, quinones, triterpenoid steroids, polyphenols, and lignin.
