Japanese Bamboo
(Dracaena Surculosa)
Japanese Bamboo plants are commonly found in tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and the Americas. However, some species are also found in Australia. Asia is the largest distribution area for bamboo. Its distribution includes Indoburma, India, China, and Japan. Indoburma is considered the plant's native region. Besides the tropics, bamboo also spreads to subtropical and temperate regions, from lowlands to highlands.
The growth of every plant is inseparable from the influence of environmental conditions, including climate and soil type. The environment suitable for bamboo plants is one with a temperature of around 8.8-36 o C. Bamboo can grow in acidic soil (pH 3.5), but generally grows well in soil with a pH of 5.0 to 6.5. In fertile soil, bamboo plants will grow well because the required mineral nutrients are met.
Bamboo is a member of the Gramineae (grass) family. Clumps of bamboo consist of numerous culms (reeds) that grow gradually, from bamboo shoots, young bamboo, and mature bamboo at 3-4 years of age. The culms are cylindrical, noded, hollow, and have hard walls. Each node contains a bud or branch.
Betung bamboo is a sympodial plant with a fairly dense clump, with canes reaching 20-30 meters in height, a base diameter of 20-30 cm, and an internode length of 40-60 cm. The cane walls are quite thick, 11-38 mm, and the sheaths are 20-25 cm long. The primary branches are larger than the other branches.
Vegetative propagation (cuttings).
Propagation using seeds
Japanese bamboo is beneficial for treating several ailments, including colds, dry skin, dry coughs, and sore throats. This is due to its ability to release moisture into the air.
