The dove orchid is widespread in Sri Lanka, Taiwan, India, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, New Guinea, Myanmar, Thailand, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. In Indonesia, this plant is found in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and Ambon. In Malaysia, it is planted as a good luck charm to ward off evil spirits.
This plant lives in lowlands up to an altitude of 1,000 m above sea level. It is generally found in damp areas in open forests, on trees (epiphytes), and sometimes on large rocks (lithophytes).
The sympodial branching stems are slender, elongated, and branched, with 1-2 nodes.
The thick, green leaves, with smooth edges and rounded tips, are oval, measuring 5-8 cm x 1.5-2.5 cm, and grow at each node of the stem.
The flowers are small, white, shaped like flying doves, 4 cm in diameter, and fragrant.
The fruit is spindle-shaped, enlarging towards the tip.
